Privacy notice.
What I collect, why I collect it, and how to get rid of it. Written to be read, not to be skipped.
The short version. I collect only what I need to teach your child safely and run the classes. I don't sell it, share it for marketing, or send you anything you didn't ask for. You can ask to see it, correct it or have it deleted at any time by emailing aaron@etivepipers.com.
Who is responsible
Etive Pipers is run by Aaron McInnes in Oban, Argyll. For data protection purposes I am the data controller. Contact: aaron@etivepipers.com.
This notice covers the public website at etivepipers.com — enquiries, the shop and donations. Pupils and families are covered by a separate, fuller members privacy notice (members area), which goes into detail about practice logs, recordings and messages. It is sent to every family to read before their child starts, and I will email you a copy any time you ask.
What I collect, and why

Payments
Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch this website — I never see or store a card number. Stripe tells me your name, email, delivery address and what you paid, so I can send your order or your receipt.
Cookies
This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and there is nothing to consent to. Two things are stored, both of them necessary:
- Your basket — kept in your own browser's local storage so the shop remembers what you picked. It never leaves your device until you check out.
- A login session — only if you are a member and log in. It signs you in and nothing else.
Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout pages, which are governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
Who else sees it
Nobody, other than the services needed to run the site: my web host (Hostinger), which stores the site and its data, and Stripe for payments. I do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or pass it to anyone else — except where the law requires it, or where a child may be at risk of harm, which is covered in the safeguarding policy.
There is no analytics service, no advertising network, no social media tracking and no embedded third-party content. The typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font service, so loading a page does not tell anyone else that you were here.
Where it is stored
On the Etive Pipers website's own server, in files that are not reachable from the public internet. Access is limited to me. Backups are downloaded and kept securely offline.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask me to:
- show you what I hold about you or your child
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it, where I am not legally required to keep it
- stop using it for a particular purpose
- send it to you in a portable form
Email aaron@etivepipers.com and I will sort it within a month, usually much sooner. There is no charge.
If you are not happy with how I have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Etive Pipers teaches young people aged 7 to 18. Enquiries and registrations are made by a parent or carer, and members-area accounts are set up by me at a parent's request. A parent can see, change or delete anything held about their child at any time.
